The Role:

S&P Global is seeking an experienced and talented Risk Management and Compliance leader to join the Corporate Risk Management team for China and the Asia Pacific region as part of the 2nd Line of Defense. Along with excellent interpersonal skills, exceptional communication style and the ability to influence key stakeholders, the successful candidate will have strong technical expertise and management experience in risk management and compliance formed within Risk, Compliance, Operations or Quality in a related sector.

This position reports directly to the Head of Business Risk Management (globally) and may have additional local reporting line.

Core Purpose:

  • Develop a risk management and compliance approach within China and the Asia Pacific region, across all the relevant business divisions, that is aligned to S&P Global s Corporate Risk Management framework

  • Implement directives to ensure compliance processes are effective within China and proactively develop solutions for any identified areas for improvement.

  • Partner with leaders locally and globally in the division and of other corporate and divisional control functions (e.g. Internal Audit, Legal, Compliance, Risk Liaisons) to operationalize risk management processes within the country

  • Be a collaborative partner and an independent challenge function within the business to ensure their decision making process is risk informed and data based

  • Ensure full risk transparency is created relating to risks of China and Asia Pacific for Risk Management stakeholders (local management, Corporate Risk Management, Enterprise Risk Management Committee and Audit Committee of the Board).

  • Provide advice on compliance related matters and support regulatory readiness and adherence to applicable laws and regulations, and internal policies and procedures

Key Accountability & Decision Rights:

  • Define and agree any regional risk management policies and procedures in alignment with S&P Global s risk management framework

  • Direct implementation of risk governance and risk reporting standards including communication of those standards to ensure compliance with regulations, if relevant

  • Participate in formulating compliance plans geared at developing and improving policies and procedures, activities related to training and education. Work with leaders across the organization to help define risk appetite, risk tolerance and other critical risk measures for China and Asia Pacific based businesses

  • Facilitate the identification, assessment, mitigation, and monitoring of regional and division risks, including compliance related risks, through assessments and control mapping exercises

  • Stay abreast of industry related events and enhancements to understand how they can help mitigate potential risks to the company

  • Represent Risk Management and Compliance within the local and regional S&P Global Governance boards, including producing and presenting China risk management and compliance reports and country & compliance risk assessments for the Asia Pacific region.

Skills - Experience - Knowledge:

  • Experience of implementing and operationalizing risk management frameworks. Also requires broad knowledge of relevant operational structure, e.g. Technology - Vendor knowledge

    • Ability to develop ideas independently and translate them into concise presentations and reports (board level)

    • Track record of global, cross-country collaboration to address risk and compliance related issues across lines of business, functions and geographies.

    • Compliance experience in leading regulated global financial services firms, preferably with exposure across sectors.

  • Problem Solving:*

    Uses conceptual and innovative thinking (i.e., identifying new - different solutions) to solve issues. Looks beyond immediate problems for wider implications and determines best path forward.

  • Interpersonal Skills:*

    Requires highly developed communications skills and ability to negotiate internally (fact based and credible). Needs to be a self-starter who can build relationships and uses judgement when working with partners to ensure effective outcomes. Needs to have the qualities of a team player and a business partner.

  • Nature of Impact:*

    Directly impacts the professional and - or technical direction and strategy for a discipline through shaping and designing new policies, procedures and standards. This will help the organization to manage divisional risks in a more formalized and effective way.

  • Leadership & Scope:*

    Manages own work with limited supervision.

    • Established expert in Risk Management with at least 10 years of experience in the international financial information and analytics business. Experience at Top 4 consulting firms or a Financial Information provider is a plus.
  • Fluent:*

    English and Mandarin.

  • Key leaders within China and the Asia Pacific region

  • Cross functional to other control functions (Audit, Ratings Risk Review, Compliance)

  • Cross divisional to all risk management liaisons

  • Reporting to Head of Business Risk Management (globally) and additional local reporting line

  • No direct reports, but strong influential skills required
