Responsibilities & Impact:

We are seeking a bright, self-motivated DevOps DBA Engineer to join our Engineering team. The DevOps DBA Engineer is responsible for hands-on installing, configuring, scaling, and monitoring SQL Server infrastructure in AWS Cloud for global commercial software platforms. An ideal candidate would have good administrative hands-on experience in SQL Server and DevOps.

This position will suit candidates who enjoy both the technical and business aspects of developing, testing, deploying, and operating SQL Server database software to a schedule in an environment of high visibility and transparency around deliverables, business needs, and customer value. You will interface with various business units in the planning of major functionality, analyzing business functional requirements to determine the scope of work, and evaluating available application alternatives to support business needs.

Via your skills with operating highly available and fault tolerant multi-region SQL Server Databases in Cloud Environment.

Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates)

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $70,300 to $139,800. The final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is not eligible for additional compensation such as an annual incentive bonus or sales commission plan.

What We’re Looking For:

Basic Required Qualifications:

• Tools and automation-based monitoring of production environments to provide proactive alerts on system health and reliability.

• excellent hands-on experience with SQL Server setup and administration.

• Working experience with SQL Server Always on and distributed Always on.

• Good background in Windows administration.

• good background in AWS administration.

• Troubleshooting and resolving root cause issues in our dev, test, and production internal and cloud environments.

• Team member role in on-time, high-quality, and operational excellence.

• Take initiative and work independently on certain projects, while contributing to a large team on others.

SQL Server Database Management:

  • Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances databases and SQL Server Reporting services.

  • Monitor and optimize database performance, ensuring high availability and scalability.

  • Conduct regular backups, perform data recovery, and implement disaster recovery plans.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including performance bottlenecks and security vulnerabilities.

  • Implement and maintain database security, access controls, and data encryption mechanisms.

Performance Optimization and Capacity Planning:

Identify and address performance bottlenecks in SQL Server databases by analyzing query execution plans, index strategies, and server configurations.

Conduct capacity planning exercises to estimate resource requirements and ensure optimal database performance and scalability.

Implement database tuning techniques, including index optimization, query optimization, and data partitioning strategies.

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:

Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, processes, and best practices.

Share knowledge to other team members on database administration and DevOps practices.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC):

leverage Terraform or similar tools to define and manage database infrastructure as code.

Design and maintain infrastructure templates and configuration scripts to enable rapid provisioning and reproducibility of database environments.

Collaborate with infrastructure and operations teams to ensure consistency and standardization of Database infrastructure configurations.

What We’re Looking For:

• 7+ years of experience with supporting highly available large-scale OLTP production SQL Server Databases.

• Experience with using T-SQL and at least one scripting language such as Python, Bash, JavaScript, PowerShell, etc.

• Expert in SQL Server Database operational tasks

• Database & SSRS setup and administration

• Knowledge of AWS Services including: S3, VPC, Route 53, EC2, Load Balancing, CloudWatch

• Proven history of SQL Server DBA in AWS

• Good understanding of networking

• Experienced in Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation or similar
