Associate Writer Leveraged Commentary & Data S&P Capital IQ

The Role:

This purpose of this position is to write - collaborate on real time news stories covering the European leveraged finance markets, ideally with a specific focus on either mid-market - private debt, or CLOs.

The Impact:

S&P Capital IQ s Leveraged Commentary & Data (LCD) team currently has approaching 20 financial journalists that reach more than 50,000 subscribers every day. On average, LCD produces 50 stories each day. This role plays a significant part of keeping up that broad client base appraised of market events, and also increasing our profile in the global credit markets generally.

The Team - The Business:

Standard & Poor's Leveraged Commentary & Data (LCD) delivers unique insight into the leveraged finance markets through a combination of data, analysis, commentary and real-time news. For investment banks, LCD is a fundamental tool for winning mandates and for pricing and structuring loans to clear the market. At the same time, buy-side firms use LCD to comp new-issue deals, identify trading opportunities and benchmark default and return performance.

The Career Opportunity:

The position allows the journalist to join a highly specialized and niche news and research service that is constantly referenced by major market players across all areas of the leveraged finance markets. It also provides an opportunity to develop an integral role in the leveraged finance arena, as they work with market players to report on, and interpret news and developing trends for the market. The candidate will have the chance to form in-depth knowledge of the market, while becoming a key member of the news team.

*Essential Accountability*

  • Interview major players in the credit markets and wider financial markets to include bankers, representatives of business, government, and academia.

  • This involves heavy telephone contact and conducting extensive market contact representing S&P at conferences, and in source meetings.

  • Write commentary on market events and analytical trends in the global credit markets.

  • Create and manage blog posts based upon proprietary stories as well as those produced by other journalists in the team.

  • Leverage information learned in order to represent S&P as a subject matter expert and raising S&P s profile across the industry by writing feature stories with third party outlets as well as giving interviews and placing relevant data with other general press outlets.

  • Research and develop coverage in areas not already addressed by Standard & Poor s LCD, including monitoring competitors to identify significant developments that may affect the LCD business model.

  • You must be able to work closely with market sources and S&P LCD s research team to collate and analyze data to reflect unique and relevant trends in the market.

  • You must have experience of working with senior editorial staff to maintain and develop the overall quality of LCD s news coverage.

_Essential Skills_

  • Relevant experience as a journalist, particularly in the financial markets.

  • Understanding of fundamental credit market mechanics

  • Capable of identifying, developing and researching market trends on the technical as well as demographic levels.

  • Experience with writing blog posts is a plus.

  • Excellent verbal & written communications skills are necessary

  • The ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment is necessary because daily and weekly production of LCD news products is very much a team effort.

  • Experience with training and supervising an editorial desk a plus.

  • Excellent social networking skills are necessary because of the significant dependence upon interaction with market players.

  • Ideally knowledge and experience of the leveraged finance markets.
