The Role: Rating Analyst / Research Assistant –International Public Finance
The Location: Melbourne
The Team / The Business: You will join a very collegial and professional team of analysts that works on credits across the Pacific. We are looking for someone who can get up to speed quickly. Rating Analysts are a key part of the success of the department and make meaningful contributions every day.
The Impact: You will be integrated into a group with high expectations and can expect to have a notable impact. You will be responsible for maintenance of spreadsheets, financial statistics, and databases. You will be actively involved in developing rating committee presentations, portfolio reviews, and outreach activities including research and drafting reports.
What’s in it for you: As a Rating Analyst, you will participate in the evaluation of the credit quality of regional and local governments, and public sector entities (such as universities and social housing providers), as it relates to their ability to repay debt obligations. Working with senior analysts, you will be responsible for aggregating data and information that is presented to rating committees. You will interact with clients, develop presentations, and prepare reports for internal and external distribution.
Collect and analyze economic and financial information specific to an issuer and market
Conduct market sector or statistical analysis and interpret key market data elements into relevant information
Leverages broad scope of knowledge when performing analysis on data sets
Performs high level analytic or modeling
Focuses on theory and concepts, applying quantitative or analytical skills to complete projects/studies/tasks
Works closely with senior analysts to update presentations, reports, and analytical information
Conducts research including identifying data, data input, and statistical analysis of results and creates and maintains data and analysis reports
What we’re looking for:
Bachelor degree with quantitative experience and studies in finance, government/public policy, economics, or similar fields
2-4 years work experience in a related field
Pursuing CFA designation or Masters in Economics/Public policy/Finance or similar fields will be ideal
Advanced knowledge of and proficiency in Excel, and ability to manipulate large data sets
Strong computer skills, including Word and PowerPoint
Familiarity with third-party data providers (Bloomberg, CEIC), economic statistics, and econometrics
Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment
Ability to be highly organized, detail-oriented and to multitask
A demonstrated interest in the government sector and how they work
Strong work ethic and ability to work well both independently and as part a team
Strong ability to work with financial models and data, including cash flow and credit models
Strong communication skills and ability to interact confidently with clients
Candidates with less experience will be considered as Research Assistant
