TheRole:

As an Associate, you will analyze a portfolio of health care organizations including assessments of market position, strategic positioning and execution as well as assessments of the organization s historical and projected financial trends. You will also be accountable for resolving difficult deal-specific analytical situations. This position is responsible for meeting with issuers and investors on analytical matters, assisting in resolving client needs, contributing to media and market engagement activities in conjunction with senior members of the team, and taking the lead at external meetings related to credits, as assigned.

As an Associate, you will work very closely with other senior analysts, and we expect you to play a role in developing and mentoring our junior staff. Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary analyst for a portfolio of moderately complex healthcare credits. This will include being an active, vocal voting member of the committee who makes recommendations to the rating committee and prepares material for ratings publication;

  • Contribute to sector research and thought leadership publications;

  • Learn and apply S&P criteria & systems and effectively communicate S&P s methodology and procedures to clients;

  • Lead initiatives designed to increase our ability to efficiently and effectively serve our clients; and

  • Ensure a risk aware culture including leading by example.

We are looking for a person who has a deep understanding of the municipal market and has a serious interest in the inner workings of health care, especially those factors that affect credit quality. We want someone who is detail oriented, but can take a step back and see the broader picture. We are looking for someone who is confident, thoughtful, and curious.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A bachelor s degree is required.

  • The candidate should possess critical thinking skills, along with proficiency with major off-the-shelf software.

  • The candidate should have the aptitude to be a team player, but also be able to work independently.

  • Strong verbal communication and writing skills; analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent time management and ability to stay organized, meet deadlines, and multitask; the ability to think independently and critically; and the ability to mentor others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master s Degree in finance, health care administration, management or related field or CFA; a plus, but not required.

  • 2-5 years of relevant work experience; experience in health care finance is a plus.
