Director, ESG Analytics and Client Delivery (S&P Global Market Intelligence)
Trucost, part of S&P Global, is a leader in ESG data and risk analysis, providing data, tools and insights to companies and financial institutions for the last 18 years to help them inform capital allocation to more sustainable business models and better communicate ESG performance to their stakeholders.
We are looking for a Director to join our ESG Analytics and Client Delivery Team, based in Japan. The role will be multi-functional, ranging from managing key client relationships in Japan, developing the market in Japan for Trucost s ESG services, delivery of Trucost s products and services to companies, banks, asset managers and pension funds in the region and interacting with companies responding to Trucost s engagement and data verification process. The role provides an opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects in the field of sustainable finance.
The Director will work closely with our global Client Development Team in managing client relationships, providing technical input for proposals and meetings with prospective clients. They will also contribute technical expertise and lead project teams conducting detailed ESG analyses across a broad range of Japanese client projects.

Trucost s expertise is providing data leveraged analytics and insights on ESG performance so that businesses and investors can understand how to direct investments that create value and avoid risk. We ve been informing companies, financial institutions, regulators and thought leaders since 2000. Trucost s carbon data underpins the S&P Global Carbon Efficient Indices recently selected by Government Pension Investment Fund for Japan (GPIF).Trucost s clients also include DBS Bank, ERAFP, Fidelity, Future Fund, GPIF, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, State Street Global Advisors and UBS among many others.
What s in it for you:
In this role, you will be working with a diverse range of clients across the investment value chain to support the management of ESG risks and opportunities. You will support clients to meet reporting needs in line with international and sector-specific reporting standards and best practices, such as TCFD and SDGs. You will be at the forefront of Trucost s expansion of ESG in Japan.
Support the management of client relationships within financial institutions and corporations in Japan, demonstrating top quality account management
Provide training to clients on Trucost s products and services
- Support account managers in Trucost s financial institutions and corporate businesses by developing technical approaches for proposals or RFP - RFI responses that recognize client needs and convey Trucost s value proposition
Support Trucost s engagement programme with companies in Japan by facilitating communication between responding companies and Trucost s data team
Work closely with Trucost s marketing team to create and deliver thought leadership (white papers, product brochures, methodology documents, blogs etc.) relevant to the market in Japan
Lead and participate in an international analytical and client delivery team conducting in-depth analytical research on the ESG performance of companies, investment products and portfolios using Trucost s proprietary methods
Clearly communicate insights and technical approaches to clients verbally and in writing, including documenting analytical methodologies for reports and developing graphs and charts appropriate for use by senior executives
Work collaboratively with a diverse team across multiple locations to conduct research and ensure the quality of insights
Represent Trucost at conferences and seminars
What We re Looking For:
Ideally the candidate would have track record of analysing environmental or ESG risks and opportunities. This could include working as an analyst within an asset manager, pension fund or bank, helping to integrate environmental factors into the investment or lending decision making processes
- Other relevant experience would include working as an ESG - RI analyst for a research provider or in the sustainability field for an environmental consultancy or Development Finance Institution
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including confidently presenting complex information to clients in ways that they can easily understand and inform their actions
Excellent project management skills and be capable of leading complex projects in a client facing capacity and managing others within project teams
Personable, with a demonstrated strength in planning and executing work assignments independently, and as part of an international analytics and client delivery team
Advanced word-processing and spreadsheet skills are expected. Including experience in developing spreadsheet based analytical tools.
Good public speaking experience
Self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, with a positive, can do attitude
Significant experience working in a financial institution in a role with exposure to corporate lending in a bank, credit risk, fundamental equities or corporate fixed income analysis or similar viewed favourably
Undergraduate and post graduate degree in relevant subjects such as; Economics, Finance, Environmental Economics, Development Economics or Environmental Sciences or relevant work experience
- Strong understanding of financial markets and investing, as well as knowledge of some of the following sustainability areas that financial institutions are involved in:*
mainstreaming ESG integration; environmental fund or index creation; environmental risk analysis; green finance and reporting of investments in different asset classes
The candidate should be conscious of detail and numerically proficient with natural curiosity and an innovative approach to problem solving
Fluent written and spoken Japanese and English. Additional languages will be considered favourably
